He grinned, bounding back to his controls.

“ALRIGHT! Where to next then Hmmmm???”

“Surprise me.” Twilight said though she wanted him to make sure that they wouldn’t go somewhere that would threaten their lives. Maybe a nice sunny place where she can read the few books that she managed to snag from the doomed great libraries. She made her way around and was looking at the various devices once more before going back to The Doctor.

“Though make sure it won’t end up somewhere that could really put us in a bind.”

Uh, yeah, looks like we are!

-Marty tried to keep up his mirthfulness, but unfortunately, he couldn’t help but feel bad that Twilight was putting the blame upon herself, in spite of her not seemingly personally affected by it. Of course, that’s how Marty perceived it. She and Doc sure bore similar qualities; their aspirations and goals in magic and science didn’t seem to be fazed by emotion. Sighing, the teen merely decided to play along and hope to high heavens that they would resolve this conflict before Twilight ultimately vanishes from existence. If the date they traveled to only extrapolated to May, it wouldn’t even be a year to outrun, thus causing the ripple effect to initiate faster. In other words, it was heavy.-

Man, this place is a mess. I thought your basement in the past was enough, but this is beyond crazy!

Heh…watch your step.

-After nervously grinning at Twilight, Marty proceeded to maneuver around all the mechanical hardware, most of which he couldn’t really decipher to what they were. Future technology was way ahead of Marty’s own time, obviously enough.-

image

G-Gaah!!

-A minor short circuit caused a few sparks to startle the teen off his feet. About to fall over, Marty attempted to grab hold of something to steady himself. There were a few wires that otherwise couldn’t be bypassed unless stepped upon, so with caution, the teen walked across the wired path, dodging, and getting surprised, by various bursts that emitted here and there. He glanced at Twilight, wherever she was, to make sure she was doing okay herself.-

Talk about a jolt in the electricity bill!! Err…no pun intended.

-Soon enough, Marty reached the stairs, hopefully with Twilight around the same spot, and slowly, albeit reluctantly, began to ascend them. The teen, however, still averted his gaze all over the area, wary of any security cameras that could be tracking down their every move.-

Looks like we’re close…

image

-But who knew? Who knew if they were close to success, or perhaps a potential danger that lurked within this fortress.-

“Be careful Marty! We don’t know quite what we are dealing with yet. Or at least we don’t know enough about what we are dealing with to come up with an accurate analysis of the whole situation. She noted after watching him deal with the short circuit. It seemed that even in this timeline she still had to deal with the mediocre wiring that made up this place. That told her a lot of things about what exactly her 2012A self did to this place. And for once she was actually a quite bit optimistic. And a little bit crafty. They could take advantage of this and hold something against her 2012A self.

“Though that does give me an idea. You’re brilliant Mr.Mcfly!” She wanted to hug him once they made their way into the next room though she was going to have to wait for the time being. Now they were in the main hallway. Once more there were tubes and plumbing going everywhere. This used to be where the first floor flats were until it got redecorated. She was looking around trying to find where the main breaker room was. That was where the gist of the plan was going to be formed.

“All we have to do is cut off the power to this place and not give it back until she agrees to help us fix what is wrong! With the way that there was a short circuit there, that means she only really had the chance to renovate the main areas and add on to the existing wiring. We can just shut down the main switch and she won’t be able to do anything. Or so I hope anyways. Once we do that we can go to the past and everything will be fin—agh!” She held her stomach and felt the painful effects of the ripples catching up to her. Her hands slowly started to fade away. With so little time they had to be moving quicker than ever.

“W—We need to find the breaker room!”

H-Huh?

-The question caught Marty off guard. Though of course, he should have expected such considering that the teen wasn’t being very subtle or secretive about his behavior. Marty made a mental note to fix that for later. Sheepishly looking at Twlight, he waved his hand to dismiss the matter.-

Oh, it’s nothing, r-really. I’m just worried about surviving this whole, other self of yours. Ya know…since you said that they have “double the magical power” and all that jazz…

-Marty tried to lie the best he could. After all, he wasn’t one to quickly disclose secrets, but the teen felt selfish in confining such a fact only to himself. After all, it revolved mainly on Twilight Sparkle’s fate, and not warning her was practically unfair. But then again, Marty believed in that “ignorance is bliss”.-

image

-It didn’t help that Marty somewhat noticed that Twilight winced in pain. It made him feel more guilty, but moping around wouldn’t do much. Indeed, they were going to have to depart now to spare any more minutes. Time was and will always be precious. After wrestling with his inner thoughts, Marty ultimately chose not to tell her…yet. He heard a saying in that it’s better to “live at one’s feet than die at one’s knees”. She didn’t need that suffering. Soon enough, a hint of confidence filled the teen’s voice.-

Yeah, we’d better split and tackle on your alternate self ASAP. Work your magic, Twi. And by the way…

…don’t think it’s your fault.

Twilight raised her eyebrow inquisitively. She couldn’t help that there was more to his explanation though she didn’t want to pry into his thoughts. Whatever it was it would have to be explained later. They needed to hurry up and get things done now.

“Well that makes sense. My alternate timeline self knows things about magic that I’m not even sure is possible to know about! Most likely anyways. And if she’s trying to integrate science and technology is something that is going full steam ahead for her. Which is why she trapped us in the first place. It was because of the Delorean. Or so I think anyways. Why would she want to destroy it though? Those are questions that we need to answer. For now though we need to get on my alternate self.” She paused for a bit though as they got off the seat and told the waiter to cancel their meal. They weren’t going to be eating here now.

“And what do you mean to not think it’s my fault? Of course it’s my fault. Logically if one knew that I changed the future by interfering with the machine and therefore causing an alternate timeline where—” Twilight paused for a second to take a deep breath and to start charging up the magic in her fingers as they made their way out of the restaurant. “my alternate self instead of working on demolishing the machine decided to continue working on it then yeah I think they would say it’s my fault. I don’t understand why you think it would be otherwise. Now hold on to my hand, we are about to be transported to another area!” She said grabbing onto his right hand vigorously and then with a blinding light they both disappeared. Normally she would never do this in public but since it was a doomed timeline it didn’t matter as much.

“Okay, we’re here.” She said looking around the back of the fortress. They had teleported inside one of the many additions that 2012A Twilight had made. This room used to be a smoking area where one would smoke. Now it was a mess of wires and machinery. It looked like an engine area. There was a bunch of stairs that lead upstairs into the main area and that’s where they were destined to go. She was just hoping there wasn’t any motion cameras that tracked them as they went. Or they would be in some nasty trouble.

-As Marty nodded towards their waiter, he proceeded to listen on to Twilight’s breakdown of how exactly the timeline skewed into its current state due to their own actions in the past. It made plausible sense, now that the teen had a clearer understanding of what the “stabilization message” implied and how it made Twilight’s experiment a success. Normally, Marty would feel happy and optimistic for his friend making such an accomplishment, but if it meant leading to this predicament, then he had second thoughts.-

And that’s how it all happened, eh? Good deduction, detective.

-He let out a smirk to brighten up the mood once more.-

So whatever the case is, we gotta prevent that message from ever appearing! At least, make sure your past self isn’t aware of your machine’s success.

That is, if we can get back to the past, but that’s gonna take a while.

-Marty took one more look at the fortress complex looming in the background. For some reason, he felt as if it was slowly creeping upon them, but that was merely the teen’s paranoia getting the best of him.-

And you being more antisocial? That’s…pretty bad to know too. To think of…all the people…who met you before…T-Twi…

image

-Marty’s voice suddenly became unsteady, as much as he didn’t want to exhibit too much. Under the table, the teen desperately looked at his hand and inspected it carefully. Afterwards, Marty stared at Twilight to make sure she was “looking okay” as well. There was only one reason to why he’d do that: to check for any signs of fading from existence. After all, if Marty met Twilight after September 31st of last year, then his knowledge of Twilight right now would probably be hindered, causing a rather drastic change in memory, or perhaps worse.-

U-Uh…

-And if the past Twilight would gradually develop into the 2012A Twilight they saw now, Marty was worried about the Twilight that sat before him. If his knowledge of timelines and the ripple effect was correct, then Marty could only wonder how long they had before it was too late. He took a glass of water and chugged it down to cool himself off.-

Y-Y-Yeah, we gotta go with whatever ya have, and quick

Twilight looked at Marty with an uneasy expression. He knew something that he wasn’t wanting to divulge the way that his voice was becoming crackled and unsteady. Was it something to do with how time was going to be altered? Something was off and she wanted to know what. Though she was going to be more subtle about it. Or at least be as subtle as she could be. Twilight leaned over just slightly in her chair and let her hands rest on the table.

“Marty, before I go on with things, I have to ask you: Is there anything you want to tell me? I noticed that you were a bit nervous there. I’m not trying to intrude or anything but I just noticed that expression and the tone of voice. If you don’t want to tell me though that’s alright. We have bigger things to be worrying about. Like repairing the timeline. Which is my fault. Strange how I screwed up my own time line like this.” She chuckled solemnly as she checked the place out to see if anything else had been altered in this time line. Her eye twitched like she was in pain or something momentarily. The effects of the timeline changing were starting to come into effect already.

“For the time being, we need to make it back to the Fortress complex. Fortunately my magic can get us there quickly. I would get us closer but I think that our alternate timeline buddy here will have some way of detecting magical spells being used. After all, cracking the code on magic can allow for some serious things. Things in which  I still wish to know. Without becoming a hermit that is. We’re going to have to be very sneaky about this though. Think we should go now?”

wonderbolts-sap:

“Alright, but just one more thing,” Spitfire said. “Security in the city has been getting tighter because of a big event called the Olympic Games. If you do see anything suspicious in the sky, please let us know.” Spitfire left a piece of paper with a phone number on it. “That’s a direct line to the airbase, if you ever need anything.”

“Yeah, I’ve heard. They will be shutting this street down for security purposes when the games start. Which means I’ll be getting at least a few days off from work. And I’ll make sure to report anything suspicious.” Twilight said taking the paper and pulling out her cell phone. She started to punch the number into the contacts so she would have nice and easy access.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”

I’m pretty sure it’ll be all said and done with, Twilight. I mean, you were able to revive yourself from the grave, right?

Err…not that you probably wanted to remember that, but…ya get the point! As long as you put your mind to it…well…you know the rest.

-Marty put a hand to the girl’s shoulder to bring back, at least, some sort of comfort. After all, it was never sweetening to see someone so close and personal turn into something harrowing in contrast to what they originally were. The teen had that sort of experience with Doc once upon a time, but if he was able to resolve that venture mostly by himself, then Twilight’s case probably wouldn’t be any different.-

-Of course, Marty was now up against magic, something he couldn’t come to believe beforehand, but up to this point, the teen realizes how strong and powerful it is. Now that such a factor is mixed up with science due to their doings in the past, it sure was something left to be desired. If only Marty didn’t bring up the DeLorean, none of this would’ve ever happened. Though, it was probably too late, or maybe even too early, to apologize. After all, they still both have a long road ahead of them, and the future is still unwritten.-

Hmm…

-Allowing himself to sit down in the restaurant, Marty put an elbow to the table and looked out the nearby window; he could pinpoint the ominous vibe emitting from 2012A Twilight’s area.-

image

Yeah…if we can’t get back that DeLorean, then knocking some sense into your alternate self is the only option. But we gotta be inconspicuous if we’re gonna sneak back in there. There needs to be another way around that barrier! Someplace where your other self wouldn’t be able to see us.

Other than that, I’m stumped…

“Well, there was a passage that would allow one to get from the back of the apartment complex to the front. Now that it’s more of a fortress due to my alternate timeline being shrouded in her own antisocial tendencies I don’t know if that will be an option. We can still try though!” Twilight raised her hand up in the air to show that she was coming up with an idea but then placed it back down. There was a lot of ideas that needed to be pondered to get back in there all incognito like. For now though since she promised to tell him what she theorized happened.

“Okay, I think it’s time for a little explanation. Remember the screen that said stabilization complete? That was the screen that I had been hoping to achieve back then. It meant that the systems would no longer overheat and that I could do full scare research. A lot of the reason why I tore it down was because it was unsafe. It could blow up at anytime. However since my change in the past caused this to happen; instead of my alternate self tearing it down she went straight back into full scale research. That series of events must have caused her to become even more antisocial and reverted me back to when I was a foal. Though I can see I’ve become even worse by attacking others.”

“I was planning on eventually showing it off to a scientific group and I guess I got the money to be able to build that—monsosity of a fortress. I probably bought out the apartment complex and renovated it into what you see today.” She crossed her arms and let out a long drawn out sigh as they ordered their meal. She was contemplating what they could do and the only thing that was coming from her conscious was to try to sneak in. Twilight could teleport them behind the fortress complex and then they would try to sneak in. One idea at the vary least.

“And this version of myself’s magic is a lot stronger. I think that’s due to the research into how magic works.”

wonderbolts-sap:

Fleetfoot responded, “We did manage to cheer her up by giving her one of our spare flight jackets. You should have seen how excited she was.” ((sorry for the confusion. I got my accounts mixed up.))

“I’m glad she was able to be cheered up. At least for a little bit. I should go check up on her soon. Well primarily when I get off of work that is. I shouldn’t be talking as much as I am but I’ll make this an exception. It’s really nice to see you all, some once again.” She said elated. It was really nice to meet other former ponies, especially the wonderbolts. Though that still made her wonder the state of Equestria. She just pushed that thought behind.
